Frequently asked questions
How do I get a professional looking finish using acrylic paints?
The paint kits are supplied with acrylic paints which is different than the glazes used at a pottery studio. The biggest difference... No kiln firing is required. To achieve a professional finish when using acrylic paints, I recommend spraying the piece with a clear coat finish such as Rustoleum Ultra Cover Clear. You can choose a satin and gloss finish. I personally prefer satin. Craft stores also carry brush on acrylic sealers which work pretty well, too.
Many ceramicist love working with acrylic paints for their vibrant colors, flexibility when blending and the paints ability to achieve incredible details.
As you may have already guessed, please do not put a ceramic piece in the oven if it has any of these finishes and/or paint on them
Do you make your bisque pieces?
We purchase our ceramic bisque from American own ceramic designers, manufactures and suppliers.
Do you have any recommendations on how to decorate my ceramic bisque without a kiln?
1. Paint it! Pick some of your favorite colors in acrylic hobby paints which are readily available in crafts store. As a bonus, acrylic paints do not need to be fired in a kiln. You can finish it with a clear acrylic spray or brush on sealer but even that’s not necessary. It’s up to you!
2. Permanent Marker, Acrylic Paint Pens, Colored Pencils: Yup, you can just color it in or add some awesome details to your piece using markers and pencils.
3. Decoupage it: Gather up some beautiful tissue papers & Mod Podge those papers on.
Most importantly: When you are happy with your creation, sign your name & date on the bottom.
After all, it’s your artwork so own it, be proud & show it off!
What type of bisque is this?
All of our bisque is made with low fire earthenware clay. It has been fired to Cone 04.
Can I bring this to a local ceramic studio to be fired for a shiny finish?
Yes, you can!
Your piece must be painted in low fire ceramic glazes only if you'd like to have it fired in a kiln. Most local "Paint Your Own Pottery" studios carry these glazes. The finishing fire should not exceed Cone 06.
No worries! The ceramic shop will know exactly what to do.
What if my piece arrives broken?
Thankfully, this doesn't happen often. We take the time to safely package all our ceramics in biodegradable packing peanuts and foam or bubble wrap. But, a break does happen occasionally and it's an easy fix.
Take a photo of the broken item and send it to me in "Messages" here on Etsy. We will send you a new one asap.
We don't like broken ceramics either :( so getting you a new one is a priority.
